A pre-k through eighth grade coed day school
Challenging our students to cultivate a better world
At Newtown Friends School, we believe how students learn is as important as what they learn.  We focus on providing our students with the skills they will need to learn and adapt to a rapidly changing world where traditional models of education have become obsolete.  Our students are life-long learners and leaders who act and speak with confidence and conviction.  They apply critical thinking and creativity to solve problems.

The school is a leader in outcomes-based education as demonstrated by students':

  • High scores on educational achievement assessments.  Although we do not "teach to the test" our students achieve scores that are higher than the average for students at independent schools.
  • Preparation for the most selective high schools and universities in the country with an emphasis on the best fit for the student.
  • Service to their communities and the world
  • Career success later in life

These outcomes are achieved through the school’s 8:1 student-to-faculty ratio, which gives our experienced teachers the opportunity to understand and care about your child. With an appreciation of your child’s unique capabilities, personality, passions and goals, teachers can focus on the areas that will benefit your child the most.

As a Friends School, students, faculty and staff thrive in an environment that emphasizes the importance of respect for the individual, integrity, equality, social justice, simplicity, peace, community, collaboration, and environmental stewardship. We believe this allows students to become well-rounded individuals who “do well and do good” throughout their lives. The school embraces students from all religious backgrounds, races, and nationalities, and believes exposure to a wide variety of ideas and perspectives is critically important to all students’ development.

Visit Us

Our campus is closed, but the the learning and admissions process continue!  We've gone virtual and invite you to reach out to us.  Start with an email or phone call to our Director of Enrollment Management, Rebecca Niszczak.  rniszczak@newtownfriends.org or 215-968-2225, option 1.

We invite you to explore our website and learn more about our community.

Open House is a great way to introduce yourself to NFS through interactive classroom activities.  Children and their parents may explore academic programming with classroom teachers.  Also on hand to greet prospective students and their families will be NFS faculty, staff, students, and parents. Visitors will take student-led tours of the extensive classrooms, labs, art rooms, Swayne Library, athletics facilities and playgrounds at the school.

Our 2019-2020 Open Houses have concluded for the year, but we welcome you to visit either through a Tuesday Tour or an individual appointment.
Tuesday Tours (temporarily suspended) are small group visits, when guests will meet with the Director of Enrollment Management and tour the school while students are working in classrooms. Similar to our classrooms, these small sessions provide ample opportunity to ask your specific questions and learn firsthand the value of an NFS education.  All Tuesday Tours begin at 9:00 AM.

We kindly ask that you register in advance for a Tuesday Tour.

Of course, if you are unable to attend a Tuesday Tour, we are happy to schedule an appointment at a time that is convenient for you.  You may schedule an appointment by contacting Rebecca Niszczak, Director of Enrollment Management.

“NFS gave me a strong sense of self. It was a place where you felt special, and not afraid to speak your mind.  Starting off in such a nurturing and caring environment instilled in me the belief that my voice mattered.”
