The four NFS basketball teams have recently finished their 2016-2017 seasons.
The boys’ Varsity team finished with a record of 13 wins and 4 losses. The boys’ JV team had a string of wins early in the season, but some later opponents presented stronger competition, resulting in a final record of 7 wins and 6 losses.
Boys’ teams Coach Mike Sanchez said the highlight of the season for the boys’ Varsity team was when they played in early February at the Center School in Abington with only five NFS players, which meant no substitutes. “The five guys played their hearts out, hustled nonstop, and battled for a victory - winning 20-10”.
On the girls’ side, the Varsity team had a record of 10 wins and 7 losses, with a strong finish winning five of their last six games. A highlight of the season was their very close 1-point win over Chapin on January 30th. The girls’ JV team finished the season with a record of 6 wins and 7 losses, also showing a strong finish by winning their final three games. Like the Varsity team, they also celebrated close games with two different 1-point wins. The JV girls’ team always seemed to be having fun on the court.
Coach Pat Crowley reflected on the season, "Both the Varsity and JV girls’ teams had amazing seasons. Every player made a meaningful contribution to the team. Watching them grow as basketball players and also as teammates was an absolute joy."
The finale of the basketball season occurs this week when the boys and girls 8th grade players face off in our annual “8th grade versus Faculty and Friends” co-ed game.
