Ways to Give

Newtown Friends School grows stronger each year due to the volunteer and financial support received from parents, alumni, grandparents, alumni parents, faculty, staff and friends in the business community.  This tradition of generosity and commitment continually enriches the school and our students.  As an independent school, Newtown Friends School relies on both tuition and gifts to continue its tradition of offering an outstanding education grounded in Quaker values. Although tuition covers most of the basic costs of operating the school, it must rely on the generous financial support of our families, alumni, and friends to continue to attract and retain exceptional teachers, remain an option for families of diverse economic backgrounds, and provide unique and innovative curriculum opportunities for students—elements that define us as a school and community.

  • Annual Giving

The Annual Fund is the most important fundraising priority at Newtown Friends School.  Tuition covers only a portion of the cost to educate a student at Newtown Friends.  Each year, unrestricted funds must be raised through gifts to the Annual Fund to help balance our operating budget.  The impact of annual giving on our school budget is critical to maintaining our tradition of educational excellence.  We encourage parents, grandparents, alumni parents, alumni, faculty, staff and friends to participate in the Annual Fund each year.
  • Capital & Endowment Giving

Newtown Friends School embarked on a campaign for endowment in 2006 for tuition assistance and faculty compensation that raised over $1.6 million, nearly doubling the school’s endowment.  The school continues to encourage gifts to its endowment funds and capital gifts toward special projects to enhance our facilities and programs.
  • Stock Gifts

Newtown Friends School welcomes gifts of appreciated securities. You may avoid capital gains tax and take a charitable deduction for the full value of the stock. For instructions on how to make a stock gift, please contact the Advancement Office at 215-968-2225.
  • Matching Gifts

Many corporations match the charitable gifts of their employees, the spouses of employees and retired employees. If your employer participates in a matching gift program, your contributions can be doubled or even tripled. Donors need to return their completed form with their gift to the Advancement Office to initiate the matching gift process.
  • Planned Giving

Planned gifts allow donors to enhance their tax planning, investment objectives, and retirement needs while ensuring the future of Newtown Friends School.  The most familiar way to make a planned gift is through a charitable bequest in your will, or naming NFS as a beneficiary of your retirement plan or life insurance policy.  Life income gifts are popular ways to make a gift to NFS that pays you and your family income for life.
  • Tributes

Gifts in honor of or in memory of a loved one are special remembrances of members of the Newtown Friends School community and are deeply appreciated by the school. An acknowledgement is sent to the family from the Advancement Office.
  • Gifts In Kind

Newtown Friends School gratefully accepts gifts of books, supplies and equipment. A tax deduction letter is sent to the individual or corporation.
