  • School Bus Driver

    The School Bus Driver is a part time position that reports directly to the Director of Finance and Operations. The person is responsible for transporting students on day and occasional overnight field trips.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    • Using the NFS school bus to transport students and teachers to day field trips, away athletic contests, and overnight field trips during the school year
    • Planning necessary route(s) to complete these bus trips
    • Assist the trip chaperones or coaches to maintain order of the students while on the trip.
    • Conduct basic safety and operational inspection of vehicle before each trip
    • Report needed mechanical repairs when necessary
    • Performs periodical safety drills as required by law
    • Maintains cleanliness of vehicle to ensure safe operating condition
    • Attend meetings regarding safety, first aid and training updates as required
    • Attend driver training programs to maintain current knowledge of Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Code as it applies to the operation of vehicles in the transportation of school children
    • Wash bus as needed
    • Fill the diesel fuel tank as needed to ensure trips can be executed without concern about running out of fuel
    • Possession of a valid and appropriate Pennsylvania Driver's License
    • Possession of a Pennsylvania School Bus Driver's Certificate
    • Possession of a safe driving record
    • Current CDL Class B or higher license with the “S” and “P” endorsements. At least three years school bus driving experience is required.
    • Strong, positive interpersonal and customer service orientation; ability to interact well with a wide variety of people, including staff, students, and school parents
    • Excellent oral communication skills
    • Must be able to work as a part of a small team
    Work Requirements
    • Successful completion of a criminal background check and driving record audit
    • Availability to work some weekends and evenings
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Independent School Teacher Intern - NFS and GS Combined Position

    Newtown Friends School (NFS) and George School (GS) are seeking candidates for a full time, one-year paid teaching internship/teaching support role.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn about independent education by working at both Newtown Friends School (Pre-K – 8th grade) and George School (9th – 12th grade) during the academic year.   The Teacher Intern will work at NFS from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. in a variety of potential areas, possibly influenced by the Intern’s subject and age interest.  

    Following the NFS school day, the Intern will then join the GS faculty for dormitory and weekend duties, as well as a potential coaching opportunity.  NFS and GS are conveniently located next door to one another with plenty of open space on both campuses. At GS the intern will have a private apartment with a bathroom and kitchen.  They will be part of a four-person dorm staff team that shares duties in that dormitory.  Dorm staff are on duty one night per week Monday through Thursday and one weekend per month.  They are also expected to attend dorm staff meetings as called by the Dorm Head. In addition, the hope is that dorm staff will be a presence in the dorm even when not on duty to strengthen their relationships to the students under their supervision and with other adult members of the GS community.  Further, as a member of the GS staff, the intern will have access to all campus amenities including all meals in the dining room, and use of the Fitness and Athletic Center.

    Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.  The successful candidate will have excellent rapport with children and teenagers.  We seek candidates who are considering a career in independent school education, and who would be interested in a unique single year experience that exposes them to students and programs spanning from Pre-K to 12th grade.  Candidates should have a desire to mentor and support students' development of the necessary academic, social, and attitudinal skills to achieve 21st-Century leadership.   Familiarity with Quaker education is advantageous.  The ability to coach is a plus.  

    A base salary will be offered with an additional stipend that is given to all dorm staff at GS.  If possible, coaching a sport would also offer an additional stipend.

  • Elementary School Associate Teacher

    The Lower School is seeking dynamic candidates for part time Associate Teacher positions for early elementary grades.  Applicants should have relevant teaching experience.  Candidates should be willing to learn about Responsive Classroom, Singapore Math, and Readers’ and Writers’ Workshop to best support Lead Teachers.  Associate Teachers, under the guidance and support of the Lead Classroom Teacher, may be asked to teach Language Arts, Math, or Social Studies. 
    Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. The successful candidate will have excellent rapport with and knowledge of elementary students and enjoy working with them in a variety of school activities in addition to classroom teaching.  We seek candidates with expertise in providing students active, hands-on experiences that incorporate digital media technology.  Candidates should have an openness to collaborating with grade-partners and working under the guidance of a Lead Teacher.  They should have an interest in supporting students' development of the necessary academic, social, and attitudinal skills to achieve 21st-Century leadership.  Candidates should be ready to engage in helping the school to achieve its goal of being an anti-racist institution with broad DEIJB goals.  Familiarity with Quaker education is a plus.
