  • Grade 4 Classroom Teacher

    Newtown Friends School is seeking a passionate and dedicated 4th Grade Teacher to join our team and contribute to the success of our students.  Applicants should have at least two years of relevant teaching experience.  Candidates will possess expertise in  planning and delivering engaging reading and writing lessons that promote literacy and critical thinking skills.  Additional skills include knowledge of Upper Elementary mathematics, ensuring students develop strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Experience with the Math in Focus program is a plus.  Other responsibilities include the design and implementation of interactive and informative social studies lessons that foster an understanding of history, geography, and cultural diversity. Must be able to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning and work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and administration to support student learning and well-being.  Teachers participate in school-wide activities including dismissal, lunch supervision, and recess duties.
     
    Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree.   An advanced degree is strongly desired.  We seek candidates with a deep knowledge of early childhood development and who have experience in providing students active, hands-on experiences.   They should have an interest in supporting students' development of the necessary academic, social, and attitudinal skills to achieve 21st-Century leadership.  Candidates should be ready to engage in helping the school to achieve its goal of being an anti-racist institution with broad DEIJB goals.  Familiarity with Quaker education and the ability to coach is a plus.

  • Facilities Manager

    The Facility Manager is responsible for the daily preparation and safe operation of the school’s facilities for students and staff. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance and Operations, the Facility Manager will also collaborate with other Administrators. The primary function of this position is the planning and executing of preventative and predictive maintenance for all of the school’s equipment and other resources.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    • Creating and executing a formal preventative maintenance program
    • Performing minor corrective/preventative maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
    • Performing minor carpenter repairs and improvements
    • Maintaining material history records on all equipment and resources
    • Preserving a collection of drawings of the building, its services, systems, and equipment manuals
    • Participating in the selection and the negotiation of contracted maintenance services
    • Supervising contracted maintenance services to ensure all work completed is satisfactory
    • Managing the supplies and equipment budget for the facilities of the school
    • Coordinating with administrators to plan special events and then preparing the school for those events by setting up and breaking down of chairs, tables, tents, signs, etc.
    • Performing housekeeping/janitorial tasks as needed during the normal school day
    • Scheduling and keeping up-to-date all inspections and permits required by outside agencies
    • Assisting with the planning and execution of the school’s safety and security procedures
    • Constantly assessing and recommending new ways of managing the school’s facilities that reduce costs and improve efficiency, productivity and safety
    • Submitting written weekly reports to the Head of School and Director of Finance and Operations
    • Other duties as assigned
    Qualifications
    • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook)
    • Strong, positive interpersonal and customer service orientation; ability to interact well with a wide variety of people, including staff, students, and outside contractors
    • Excellent oral and written communications skills
    • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret technical drawings and service manuals
    • Demonstrated organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
    • Must be self-motivated and able to exercise sound judgment in prioritizing tasks which originate from numerous sources in order to meet various deadlines
    Work Requirements
    • Successful completion of a criminal background check and driving record audit
    • Availability to work some weekends and evenings
    • Current CDL Class B or higher license with the “S” and “P” endorsements.  At least three years school bus driving experience is required. 
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • School Bus Driver

    The School Bus Driver is a part time position that reports directly to the Director of Finance and Operations. The person is responsible for transporting students on day and occasional overnight field trips.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    • Using the NFS school bus to transport students and teachers to day field trips, away athletic contests, and overnight field trips during the school year
    • Planning necessary route(s) to complete these bus trips
    • Assist the trip chaperones or coaches to maintain order of the students while on the trip.
    • Conduct basic safety and operational inspection of vehicle before each trip
    • Report needed mechanical repairs when necessary
    • Performs periodical safety drills as required by law
    • Maintains cleanliness of vehicle to ensure safe operating condition
    • Attend meetings regarding safety, first aid and training updates as required
    • Attend driver training programs to maintain current knowledge of Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Code as it applies to the operation of vehicles in the transportation of school children
    • Wash bus as needed
    • Fill the diesel fuel tank as needed to ensure trips can be executed without concern about running out of fuel
    Qualifications
    • Possession of a valid and appropriate Pennsylvania Driver's License
    • Possession of a Pennsylvania School Bus Driver's Certificate
    • Possession of a safe driving record
    • Current CDL Class B or higher license with the “S” and “P” endorsements. At least three years school bus driving experience is required.
    • Strong, positive interpersonal and customer service orientation; ability to interact well with a wide variety of people, including staff, students, and school parents
    • Excellent oral communication skills
    • Must be able to work as a part of a small team
