Newtown Friends School seeks a thoughtful, student-centered educator to serve as our Academic Support Teacher for Grades 5–8. This role is central to our commitment to supporting a range of learners while maintaining strong academic expectations.
The Academic Support Teacher will provide targeted instruction and support to students in Grades 5–8, with a focus on executive functioning, study skills, and helping students access the curriculum with increasing independence. Through direct instruction, classroom collaboration, and coordination of accommodations, this teacher will play a key role in our tiered system of support.
The Academic Support Teacher will collaborate closely with classroom teachers to scaffold assignments, support differentiation, and help students apply executive functioning strategies within authentic classroom settings. The role also includes facilitating Extended Study Hall, where students receive structured support with homework, organization, and study planning in a calm, focused after-school environment that promotes independence.
As a member of the Student Support Team (SST), the Academic Support Teacher will contribute to the coordination of student support services, maintain accommodation plans and documentation for Grades 5–8, and serve as a liaison between school and home. This includes regular communication with families, collaboration with faculty and outside specialists, and ongoing monitoring of student progress, including written updates throughout the year.
As we continue to strengthen our systems of support, this position offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a program that reflects both inclusion and excellence.
