7th Grade Explores Washington DC

Our 7th graders recently returned from an unforgettable field trip to Washington, D.C.—bringing their studies of U.S. history and government to life in powerful and meaningful ways.
Our 7th graders recently returned from an unforgettable field trip to Washington, D.C.—bringing their studies of U.S. history and government to life in powerful and meaningful ways.

Throughout the trip, students explored iconic landmarks and institutions that deepened their understanding of the people, events, and ideals that have shaped our nation. From standing in quiet reflection at the Lincoln Memorial and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, to honoring those who served at the Korean and Vietnam War Memorials, each stop offered space for learning, connection, and thoughtful discussion.

Students also visited the FDR Memorial, Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, and the U.S. Supreme Court, gaining insight into the foundations of our democracy and the branches of government. At the U.S. Capitol and National Archives, they saw firsthand the documents and spaces where history continues to unfold.

Museum visits—including the National Portrait Gallery, the National Museum of Natural History, and the National Museum of African American History and Culture—allowed students to engage with diverse stories, scientific discovery, and cultural heritage.

The trip concluded with a visit to the ropes course at Sandy Spring Friends School, where students challenged themselves, built trust, and strengthened their sense of community.

We are proud of our students for their curiosity, respect, and engagement throughout this experience. These moments—captured in the photos we’re sharing—reflect learning that extends far beyond the classroom.
