Our Third Grade students have been diving into an exciting International Baccalaureate Unit of Inquiry exploring Africa!
Building on earlier studies of continents, geography, environments, and culture—including their deep exploration of the South American rainforest—students expanded their research, mapping, and comparison skills to better understand how geography, beliefs, and natural resources shape culture.

Throughout the unit, learning came alive across many subjects. Students researched and read about different regions of Africa, wrote informational pieces, created vibrant artwork inspired by cultural traditions, explored music and movement, and used technology to share their discoveries.
The photos highlight students proudly presenting their work—sharing thoughtful writing, creative art, and fascinating facts they uncovered about African countries and cultures. It was wonderful to see their curiosity, confidence, and growing global awareness on display!
Beyond the classroom, students made meaningful connections between their own lives and the lives of people in African communities—thinking about similarities and differences in food, music, language, celebrations, and daily life. These reflections help nurture empathy and understanding as students grow as global citizens.
This unit also builds conceptual understanding that will support future learning about civilizations, migration, identity, and our interconnected world. By exploring the ideas of form, function, and connection, students are learning to recognize patterns and relationships that help them understand how people and environments interact across time and place.
We are so proud of our Third Graders for their thoughtful inquiry, creativity, and enthusiasm for learning about our world! ✨
